Michigan's Natural Resources
Most of the copper in Michigan is found in the Upper Peninsula. Native Americans were the first to mine the copper. Much of the copper they used to make tools. Michigan quickly became home to copper mining, producing more than 3/4 of the nation's copper between 1850 and 1880. Men in Michigan eager to mine were able to get jobs digging up copper.
